Eurovision Slogans: A Journey Through Unity and Diversity
Since its 1956 inception, the Eurovision Song Contest has evolved alongside Europe's changing cultural landscape. In 2002, the tradition of official slogans began with "A Modern Fairytale" in Tallinn, Estonia, setting the stage for thematic threads that would define each year's contest.
With the inclusion of more countries, Eurovision's slogans shifted towards unity and collaboration. "Building Bridges" in 2015 and “Come Together” in 2016 exemplify the emphasis on unity and nations coming together for a shared, magical experience.
Recent years have seen a focus on celebrating diversity. "Celebrate Diversity" in 2017 and "Dare to Dream" in 2019 underscored the uniqueness of each country, inspiring artists and viewers alike to pursue their dreams without boundaries.
In 2023 the slogan ‘United by Music’ was used in Liverpool, UK and has now been confirmed by the EBU as the slogan for every future Eurovision contest.
I have already said how I am going to miss the different slogans each year (see here) so I have collated all the historic slogans that we have seen since 2002. Which one is your favourite?
